Fantasy Faceoff: Week 5 dilemmas

Each week our Dave Richard and Jamey Eisenberg will literally bring their inter-office debating to your computer, explaining why they like one player over another based on a particular week's matchup. As always, we'll try to come up with debates that you might have either with yourself or fellow owners.

Reggie Bush vs. Carolina or Sammy Morris / Laurence Maroney vs. Cleveland?
Dave Richard Jamey Eisenberg
Dave Richard Bush is now the Saints' primary running back. That right there is enough to give him the nod over any guy who splits time in his backfield. But in addition to that, the Saints know that if they're going to start winning games, they're going to have to use Bush as a pure running back. He's going to get the chance to total over 20 touches per game (several will be through the air still) and be an option at the goal line, which wasn't always the case when Deuce McAllister was healthy. The Panthers come to New Orleans in Week 5 and have allowed 119.0 rush yards per game so far and gave up two rushing TDs last week. With the Saints rested from their bye and hungry for a win, Bush should have a big day as part of his Fantasy resurgence. Jamey Eisenberg Maybe the Dolphins wish they hadn't let Morris go to the division-rival Patriots. Morris, who was a special team's star for Miami last year, has more rushing yards this season than LaDainian Tomlinson, Larry Johnson and Frank Gore, among others. For the year, Morris has 54 carries for 268 yards and three touchdowns. Oh yeah, and he's the backup. Laurence Maroney is the starter, but after getting his first 100-yard game in Week 3 against Buffalo, he hurt his groin and missed Monday night's game against Cincinnati. No matter, since Morris ran for 117 yards and a touchdown on 21 carries. New England gets Cleveland this week, and the Browns are ranked No. 30 in run defense. That means another big day for Morris if Maroney is out or maybe both guys excel. With the Patriots rolling up big leads, don't be surprised if Kevin Faulk or Heath Evans goes off one of these days because the offense is that good.
Dwayne Bowe vs. Jacksonville or Marques Colston vs. Carolina?
Dave Richard Jamey Eisenberg
Dave Richard Bowe's stats have increased over each game this season, culminating last week with his first 100-yard game. He's also scored in three straight and takes on a Jaguars defense that should bottle up Larry Johnson, That means that the Chiefs will have to throw, and while the Jags do rank third against the pass, they're going to have their hands full between Tony Gonzalez and Bowe. Jamey Eisenberg Last year Colston was Bowe. He was the hot rookie who was tearing up the league. This year, Colston has been a disappointment. But he gets going this week against Carolina -- a team he torched last year for five catches for 132 yards and a touchdown in their only meaningful matchup.
Vince Young vs. Atlanta or Drew Brees vs. Carolina?
Dave Richard Jamey Eisenberg
Dave Richard Over his last two games in standard-scoring leagues, Young has put up 18 points in each. In those same leagues, Brees has scored 15 total Fantasy points this year. I admit that Brees should work his way out of this funk, but Young's matchup at home against the Falcons outweighs Brees' battle vs. Carolina simply because he hasn't been reliable. Young has. Jamey Eisenberg When talking about busts, one of the first names that comes to mind is Brees. But following the bye week, Brees will get back on track. In his only meaningful game against Carolina last year, Brees had 349 yards passing and a touchdown. He would love to have those numbers again, and I think he breaks out this week.
LenDale White vs. Atlanta or Brian Leonard vs. Arizona?
Dave Richard Jamey Eisenberg
Dave Richard Frankly, the last thing I want is any Rams on my roster as they have so many problems on both sides of the ball. So I'd rather have White than any Ram for Week 5. White happens to have a nice matchup against the Falcons, who are 23rd vs. the run, at home coming off a bye. I'd gladly start him. Jamey Eisenberg I don't like either guy here, but if I had to start Leonard or White, I'm taking Leonard. He will be the entire offense for the Rams this week. White, meanwhile, will share carries with Chris Brown again, and I'm not sold on the Titans offense being dominant just yet.
Earnest Graham or Michael Pittman at Indianapolis?
Dave Richard Jamey Eisenberg
Dave Richard Graham and Pittman will split reps in place of Cadillac Williams for the rest of 2007. Pittman has always been a third-down type while Graham is the more pure runner. Graham has also been in at the goal line over the last two games. That's the tiebreaker in my eyes; I'd rather have the fourth-year power back than the 10-year veteran. Jamey Eisenberg I'm taking Pittman over Graham because Pittman is the tougher guy. He will get the short yards, while Graham will get stuffed, and Pittman will definitely be better with more carries. Plus he catches the ball and has a good history with coach Jon Gruden.
